Summary of Past Activities

In the Spring of 1997 the Department of Mental Health's Divisions of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and Comprehensive Psychiatric Services were awarded the Library Cooperation Competitive Grant. The purpose of the grant was to provide access to computer technology to persons with disabilities, families and support staff. The foundation of the project is the belief that computer technology can open doors for people. The internet may be used as a tool to increase knowledge of Mental Health Issues, Community and World Events and a multitude of other topics. It provides opportunities for increased interactions with family, friends and persons with similar interests. From 1997 - 2001, the Department to place 19 computers throughout the state.

An additional 44 computers were also distributed through the Department's Technology Transfer Project. This project took computers made obsolete by the Department's CIMOR project and placed them in community settings so that persons with disabilities would have computer access.
