CRISIS
INTERVENTION
Behavior Intervention
The
purpose of the BRT is to provide support to people with disabilities, when
their behavior affects their ability to function successfully within their
home, or community. If a crisis occurs that jeopardizes health and safety, the
BRT is available on a 24-hour basis. Their goals during a crisis are to protect
everyone involved, stop the cycle of aggressive behavior and restore stability.
When
behavioral challenges exist on a routine basis, BRT staff will attempt to
coordinate a positive behavioral support network including: education,
training, and strategies for families, classroom teachers, and direct care
staff.
BRT
services are flexible, creative, insightful, and proactive. Team members will
utilize people and supports that already exist in an individual’s
environment to develop strategies or make subtle changes that will promote
positive behavior and avoid future crisis situations.
