"Helping people with developmental disabilities live the lives they want to live."
People First is a self-advocacy and self-help organization of people who have developmental disabilities. Self-advocacy means that the members are learning to speak for themselves and make decisions about their lives. Self-help means that the members are helping each other with their problems, making friends and reaching out to people with severe disabilities. People First also shows people in the community that those with developmental disabilities are human beings like everyone else...people first...who are able to learn, work, make decisions, and contribute to the community where they live. There are two chapters in Sikeston Regional Office's service area - People First of Sikeston, and People First of Madison County. The Sikeston Chapter meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Sikeston Regional Office.
